My children's pick is a new twist to an old favorite, "The Little Red Hen". This version of the childhood classic is hilarious. The illustrations are wonderfully done by Barry Downard. I read this book to a Pre-K class and they loved it. Young readers will get a kick out of the story as well as illustrations. Some suggestions to expand upon the story are:
-Students could make a mini book of the story and re-tell it to the class.
-Students could pick a character and re-tell the story from their point of view.
-Class discussion on sharing and teamwork.
You can find "The Little Red Hen" illustrated by Barry Downard at your local library.

My young adult pick is "The Serpent's Shadow" by Rick Riordan. This book is the final installment in the Red Pyramid Series. In The Serpent's Shadow we follow Sadie and Carter Kane on an action packed adventure to save the world from Chaos. With the help of ancient Egyptian Gods, Brooklyn House, an ape, and an albino crocodile, can the Kanes once again save the world? All will be revealed in Rick Riordan's "The Serpent's Shadow".
